COPY WRITING & EDITING
MAGAZINE ARTICLES / BLOG POSTS / SOCIAL CONTENT / CORPORATE MATERIALS / . . .
Engaging copy is the difference between content that gets browsed over and content that gets devoured. Don’t settle for forgettable content, your readers should be inspired to know more about what you do. Here are three ways I make my writing jump off the page…
Step 1 - Know your audience
It sounds simple to say, but if you’re talking to ten-year-olds, sentences like, ‘the gastropod’s skin was unguent with slime’, isn’t going to give them the full benefit of the story you’re telling. By getting to know you and your audience, I’ll write copy that is right for the reader. As an editor, I can also make sure any content your organisation wants to include is faithful to the brand and consistent with your style of communication.
Step 2 - Know your subject
Being immersed in a subject is the only way to really talk about it with authority. It also makes for much more interesting and informative content. I can help you polish your own writing, or I can do my research to provide curated content from scratch.
Step 3 - Sell the idea
Even with the first two steps completed, great writing adds that extra sparkle. An engaging style comes down to word choice and sentence structure, and it relies on the author understanding how to grab a reader’s attention, maintain their focus, and guide them through a maze of information without them feeling lost or tired.
