DISPLAY MATERIALS

INTERPRETATION BOARDS / BANNERS / EXHIBITION & GALLERY DISPLAYS / EVENT POSTERS & PROMOTION / . . .

Display materials are often information-heavy, so it’s crucial to create a smooth flow and give each element space to breathe. Here are three key strategies I use to keep designs effective…

Step 1 - Grab attention

Most of the time, display designs are like islands of information in an ocean of other distractions. The goal is to draw in passing ships and persuade them to weigh-anchor for a short while. The key to this is to make people feel from a distance that the investment of their time and attention will be rewarded. I achieve this through visual impact, with image elements and colour choices that will appeal at a distance, and giving blocks of text enough room to breathe, assuring a pleasant reading experience (rather than information overload). Ahoy-there!

Step 2 - Create flow

It’s important to guide the reader through the information. To this end, I design with visual signposts, leading the viewer through the narrative naturally, from one element to the next. This keeps the reader engaged and invested in your story, all the way to end.

Step 3 - Leave them wanting more

It's tempting to include every detail, but a more lasting impression can be achieved through carefully selecting key details. I focus on creating impact, defining a call to action, and directing the reader to ways they can find out more. This strategy ensures your audience will continue their experience primed and ready to engage on a deeper level with your mission.
