T-shirts & Merchandise

Designing for merchandise is a really enjoyable challenge. There’s almost no limit to where it can take my imagination and I love working on different stories and styles to get a message across. There’s also joy in making designs that pop - these are usually not artworks people will spend a lot of time studying in detail, they are fleeting as the viewer passes someone in the street or browses along lines of other products, so they need to have instant impact and appeal.

I really like the idea, say for a t-shirt, that someone sees the design and buys the t-shirt because it connects with some part of their truth or experience. Then they wear it out, and someone else sees it, and it makes them smile or take notice or think ‘hell yeah!’, and perhaps another connection is made. Like electricity jumping from circuit to circuit, the connections start to spread out. It feels like a potentially very powerful way to express a message or project a cause you believe in.
