Display Boards
At Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, I gained a lot of experience in communicating information through diplay boards. With events and nature reserves across Teesside, not to mention doing work to help affiliated ‘Friends of’ groups and local councils, I had plenty of opportunity to create some imaginative and informative site interpretation. Often this work involved collaborating on designs with partner organisations, supporters, and funders.
One of my favourite parts of the process was visiting the nature reserves to take general site and nature photographs to use in the designs. Getting to be outside in nature on a sunny day is about as good as it gets. I think the key to staging this information, to make it appealing and accessible, is to be consise and choose carefully the best bits of the story. To make these display boards I am often working with a variety of sources, pulling together points of interest and weaving them into a consistent narrative. You can never really say everything you want to say, but the real aim here is to enhance the visitor experience, to make a brand identity more recognisable, and to give the reader an easy route to more information (which should ideally be available through the brand’s other outlets).
If you’re offering a site-based visitor experience, you’ll be looking to communicate with your audience with displays and interpretation. I can work with your materials and make them look their best, as well as adding value with additional content such as photographs, maps and assets as needed.
